Paul Harrison

Pianist, keyboard player and composer Paul Harrison was born in Manchester, England. As a youth Paul showed an adeptness and interest in musical directions beyond (and counter) to those which his teachers were leading him, and he was improvising years before he was ever exposed to jazz. He settled in Scotland after entering Edinburgh University on a prestigious piano scholarship. After graduating he turned aside from his classical background and through hard work and immersion became established on the Scottish jazz scene, quickly gaining admiration and respect and was soon working with all of Scotland’s best jazz and blues singers and instrumentalists.
Paul is also known for his part in genre-defying trio Trianglehead. Their debut album Maths was praised in Jazzwise magazine, and the recent follow-up Exit Strategy was chosen by Herald critic Rob Adams as his favourite Scottish Jazz release of 2007.
Although primarily a performer, Paul is a part-time tutor in music at Edinburgh University. As a composer and arranger he is working continually on new material for all of the many groups he appears with.
