Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London in 1993, Tom has been a busy freelance player and has worked with a wide variety of. In 2002 he took over the drum chair in the BBC Big Band, and currently holds that position.

Some highlights in Tom's career so far include working with the BBC Big Band, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Jamie Cullum, Lalo Schifrin, James Morrison, The BBC Concert Orchestra, The London Philharmonia, The Royal Phiharmonic Orchestra, The Royal Scottish National Orchesra, Sammy Nestico, Patti Austin and Jon Faddis.

Tom has also played in West End productions of Fosse, Witches of Eastwick, Mary Poppins. In 2004 Tom moved back to his home in Scotland, where he lives with his wife and three children.
